China
Internet Access
China continues to have one of the world’s most sophisticated regimes of Internet filtering and information control. China’s government aggressively censors content in a broad variety of categories across all themes. It blocks all Google services, Wikipedia, and many of the world’s biggest social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter. The government targets several content categories in the social theme, including porn, gambling, LGBT rights, and alcohol and drugs. It also pervasively censors websites that are critical of the communist government or that portray the Dalai Lama or Taiwan in a positive light.
