Internet Monitor is seeking a stellar part-time intern to work with us in Cambridge, MA during the Fall 2015 semester (October-December 2015).

Internet Monitor compiles and analyzes quantitative data about Internet content controls and online activity around the world. We also conduct research on key events and new developments in Internet freedom and activity, incorporating technical, legal, social, and political analyses.

Research Assistant Responsibilities
Research assistants may be asked to assist with any or all of our initiatives. This may include:

  • Monitoring a wide variety of news sources/tracking current events related to Internet Monitor’s research areas.
  • Drafting blog posts for the Internet Monitor blog (thenetmonitor.org) and coordinating and editing contributions to the blog from affiliates and other contributors.
  • Maintaining the project’s Twitter (@thenetmonitor) account.
  • Assisting with research and writing related to our data collection and special report efforts.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for issues related to online freedom of speech/information and the importance of comprehensive, accurate quantitative data for research and policy making.
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Basic HTML skills and familiarity with a Content Management System, or a willingness to learn.

Time Commitment & Compensation
RAs work approximately 8-12 hours per week. This position is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts; remote participation is not possible for this opportunity. The estimated start date is October 5, 2015; the internship runs through mid-December 2015. The position will be compensated at standard Berkman Center research assistant hourly rates for a maximum of 15 hours per week.

General Academic Year Research Assistant Information and Eligibility

  • We are unable to hire RAs who live outside of the state of Massachusetts.
  • We do not have the ability to provide authorization to work in the United States.
  • RAs do not have to be students.
  • RAs do not have to be affiliated with Harvard University.
